About Shirdi & Shri Sai Baba
Shirdi is a small village in Rahata Taluka, Ahmednagar District, Maharashtra, best known as the home of Shri Sai Baba. Sai Baba first arrived in Shirdi at around 16 years of age and lived there for roughly 60 years — first at the Dwarkamai mosque, later at the Chavadi — teaching love, compassion and unity. He took Samadhi on 15 October 1918, and his Samadhi Mandir in Shirdi has since grown into one of India's most-visited pilgrimage sites, drawing devotees from across the country and abroad every single day.
Best Time to Visit Shirdi
The right time to visit depends on what kind of trip you want:
- October to April — the most popular window, with pleasant temperatures (15°C–35°C) that are ideal for temple visits and sightseeing.
- June to September (monsoon) — heavier rain, but noticeably fewer crowds and lush green surroundings for a quieter darshan.
- Navratri (Sept–Oct) & Ram Navami (Apr–May) — the temple is beautifully decorated and full of devotional energy, though it does get busier.
Sai Baba Aarti Timings at the Shirdi Sai Temple
Aarti timings vary slightly by day of the week:
- Weekdays: morning Aarti at 4:30 AM and evening Aarti at 9:00 PM.
- Saturdays: an additional midday Aarti at 12:00 PM (three Aartis total).
- Sundays & special occasions: a fourth, noon Aarti is also held.
Astha Tourism can plan your Shirdi Tour Package around a specific Aarti so you don't miss it.
Popular Places to Visit in Shirdi
- Shirdi Sai Baba Temple — the main shrine, including the Dwarkamai Mosque and Chavadi where Sai Baba resided.
- Samadhi Mandir — the sacred shrine housing Sai Baba's Samadhi.
- Dwarkamai & Chavadi — Sai Baba's two residences within the temple complex.
- Lendi Baug — a peaceful garden opposite the temple, developed by Sai Baba himself.
- Khandoba Temple — on the Shirdi-Nashik road, dedicated to the local guardian deity Lord Khandoba.
- Sai Heritage Village — interactive exhibits on the life and teachings of Sai Baba.
- Maruti Mandir — a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman.
- Sakori Ashram — about 15 km from Shirdi, associated with spiritual leader Upasni Maharaj.
Festivals of Shirdi
Shirdi's calendar is built around a few major festivals: Ram Navami (April, marking Lord Rama's birthday), Guru Purnima (July, honouring Sai Baba as Shirdi's Guru), and Dasara/Vijayadashami (October) — each bringing grand processions and a festive atmosphere to the temple town, along with larger crowds.
